2026 Copper Coast Show

Last Friday, the Clare High School Agriculture Department packed up the trailer, loaded the animals, and made the journey to Kadina Showgrounds for the Northern Schools Livestock Expo and what a day it turned out to be.

32 CHS students and 24 animals made the trip, joining six other schools from across the region for a full day of competition, camaraderie and, of course, a bit of good-natured rivalry. The weather couldn’t have been better, and the atmosphere at the showgrounds was buzzing from the moment students arrived.

Goats, Steers and Sheep – A Team Effort

Our goat team put their preparation to the test, being judged on both the presentation of their animals and their own handling ability in the ring. Meanwhile, the steer and wether team focused on handling classes, with several students also stepping up to take part in the junior judging competition – a chance to show off their eye for a quality animal, not just their handling skills.

It takes a huge amount of work behind the scenes to get animals show-ready, and Friday’s results were a real reflection of the effort our students have put in throughout the term.

Grand Parade Glory

If there was one moment that summed up the day, it was the Grand Parade. Every student and animal from every competing school took to the oval together for the parade – steers, wethers and goats, all in the one place at the one time. It’s always a sight to behold (and, if we’re honest, a little bit of organised chaos), but our students and animals handled it beautifully.

The result? First place in the Grand Parade! A fantastic team effort and the perfect way to cap off the day.

None of this happens without support behind the scenes. A huge thank you to Alex Welke, Amy Abbot and Brad Charnstrom for transporting our animals to and from Kadina; getting 24 animals safely there and back is no small task, and we’re grateful for their time and effort.

Well Done, Everyone

Congratulations to every student who competed, handled, judged and supported their teammates on the day. Whether you brought home a ribbon or gained valuable experience for next time, you represented Clare High School with real credit.
