Deputy Principal’s Message – Term 1, Week 2

Deputy Principal's Message

The start of the 2026 school year has been filled with energy, optimism and a strong focus on setting our students up for success. Across the school, students have been settling into learning routines, revisiting the foundations that support effective learning, and setting personal goals for the year ahead. Establishing these habits early is key to building confidence, resilience and achievement as the year unfolds.

A highlight of the opening weeks has been our renewed focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). Mandy Knight has led this work with staff, with a particular emphasis on consistent routines for movement between classes. Bek Holland has also shared practical classroom structures that support student engagement and success. These shared approaches ensure our students experience calm, predictable and supportive learning environments every day.

Day one was an exciting milestone for many. We proudly welcomed our new Year 7 students to Clare High School, supported by Middle School Leader Kristy McCarthy and the middle years team. At the same time, our Year 12 students began the year with an offsite retreat, taking time to reflect, connect and set clear intentions for their final year of schooling.

Our senior students are already making strong progress in shaping their future pathways. With the leadership of Chloe Frkic, students are enrolling in VET programs and personalising their learning journeys to align with career goals and interests. We are also pleased to continue offering cross-site Stage 2 subjects, including Chemistry hosted at CHS by Emilie Hooper, and access to Psychology and Health & Wellbeing through our partnership schools and their expert teachers. For the first time, students can also study Stage 1 and Stage 2 Dance with Emma Fernee, expanding our curriculum offerings.

We warmly welcome several new staff members to CHS this year: Chloe Frkic, John Stevens, Emma Fernee, Amanda Coad, Anna Simon and Anastasia White. Each brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to our community.

A significant learning moment for staff and families has been Day 2 of Restorative Practices training with Kerrie Sellen. Thank you to the parents who attended the evening session to learn more about how we support students to resolve conflict, repair relationships and grow through challenges.

Finally, thank you to the families who joined us for Meet the Teacher Night and BBQ. Despite the warm weather, your presence and engagement were greatly appreciated, and the informal conversations over the BBQ were a wonderful way to connect.

We look forward to continuing the momentum next week with the Twilight Swimming Carnival, led by our new Healthy Lifestyles Leader, John Stevens. It promises to be a fun and inclusive event for our students and community.

We look forward to another successful year together.

Warm regards,

Kylie Alozie

Student Phone & Personal Device Policy

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and focused learning environment, we would like to remind you of the Student Phone and Personal Device Policy.

It is crucial that students adhere to this policy. Students are not permitted to access their devices, including mobile phones, bluetooth earphones/buds, or smart watches, between 8:30am and 3:20pm. This includes using phones for payments at the canteen; students should instead use a bank card or cash.

Failure to comply with this policy will result in consequences as outlined in the document. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these guidelines with your child to ensure a productive and respectful school environment.

Thank you for your cooperation.

At Clare High School, the wellbeing of our students is at the centre of everything we do. We strive to develop the ‘whole-person’ and take pride in our approach to individualised learning that respects individual differences and fosters and grows the values and strengths of each of our students.

We see wellbeing as an integral part of our students learning experience and believe that with a positive wellbeing, students and staff alike, have better resilience and coping strategies, have a more positive outlook on life and are more likely to achieve success.
