Recommended Background: Although not compulsory, some background in Dance would be beneficial.
Content: Dance students develop aesthetic and kinaesthetic intelligence, using the body as an instrument for the expression and communication of ideas. Students develop understandings through practical movement skills and choreographic and performance skills as an artist, and experiencing performance as part of an audience. They consider the role of dance in different cultural contexts, including those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and its place in transmitting culture. They develop an appreciation of dance as an art form, as well as a life-enrichment opportunity connected to mental and physical well-being.
Students choose their genre of dance, and they may shift between genres through each assessment type, or focus on one specific genre.
In this subject, students are expected to:
- develop knowledge and understanding of the body, dance skills, dance elements, structural devices, production elements, and safe dance practices
- apply technical and expressive dance skills in performance
- communicate choreographic intent to an audience through composition and performance
- reflect on their own creative works as an artist and that of others as an audience member
- investigate dance in diverse contexts.
This subject will be conducted at Clare High School.
This subject is open to any student regardless of capability or experience.
Assessment: Students are assessed using the SACE Performance Standards. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
- Assessment Type 1: Skills Development
- Assessment Type 2: Creative Explorations
- Assessment Type 3: Dance Contexts
Additional Charges: A Performance Excursion and Performance Materials fee applies to participate in this subject. This is in addition to the CHS Materials and Service charge.
