Australian Rover Challenge – Term 1, Week 9

Australian Rover Challenge - Term 1, Week 9

28 March 2025

On Friday 28 March, students from our Year 10 STEM/Robotics class, along with members of the STEM Club, had the exciting opportunity to attend the Australian Rover Challenge, hosted by the University of Adelaide at their Roseworthy Campus.

This annual competition brings together university teams from across Australia and abroad to compete using semi-autonomous rovers in a simulated lunar environment. Our students were thrilled to watch one of the teams in action as they navigated their rover through the arena and attempt to press the buttons on a control panel.

As part of the day, students received a guided tour of the campus, gaining insight into university life and the range of facilities available. A highlight for many was observing undergraduate students gown up in preparation to carry out necropsies, followed by the opportunity to participate in a hands-on robotics workshop using VEX robotics kits.

The experience not only showcased future study and career pathways in STEM but also provided a valuable opportunity for our STEM Club to acquire a new robotics kit to support their preparations for their Schools Rover Challenge later in the year.

A heartfelt thank you to the University of Adelaide for their generosity in inviting us, hosting such a memorable day, and covering our travel costs.
