At Clare High School, the STEM program for Years 7 and 8 offers an engaging, integrated curriculum designed to develop students’ critical and creative thinking through real-world problem-solving.
The program, led by Justin Lodge and Ryan O’Neill, involves collaborative planning by specialist teachers who align the curriculum with the Australian Curriculum and the SA Teaching for Effective Learning (TfEL) framework.
Students explore concepts from mathematics, science, and engineering through inquiry-based, project-based, and challenge-based learning approaches. The curriculum includes topics such as laboratory skills, ecosystems, renewable resources, and chemical changes, with an emphasis on teamwork and the use of technology.
Assessment is based on the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards, and students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities, including projects, incursions, competitions, and excursions, to further enhance their STEM experience.
