Principal’s Report – Term 1, Week 8

Principal's Report - Term 1, Week 8

17 March 2025

Dear Clare High School Community,

As we progress through the year, I am pleased to share some highlights and updates from our school.

We have had a smooth and settled start to the year, thanks to the dedication and cooperation of our staff, students, and families. Our focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) routines, including entry, exit, and classroom seating arrangements, has been instrumental in creating a positive learning environment. This initiative led to a change in bell times, allowing middle school students to be met by their teachers and walked to their lessons. I am delighted to report that this approach has been successful, with a significant reduction in behaviour incidents.

Our new partnership with the Defence Force, developed under the guidance of our VET Leader, Kim Maynard, has enabled us to successfully start the Electrotech course this term. We are excited about the potential to expand our Vocational Education and Training (VET) offerings on-site over the next few years, providing more opportunities for our students.

The Australian Innovation Framework (AIF) has begun, replacing the Research Project. It is the second subject to be rolled out under the SACE Renewal program that started in 2024. This is an exciting development in our curriculum with it’s focus on student agency in their learning journey.

Our Swimming Carnival was a fantastic event, with Gleeson House emerging as the winners. It was my first swimming carnival in many years, and I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing our students’ enthusiasm and commitment to their teams. It was heartening to see so many participating, regardless of their ability. Following this, our students excelled at the Regional Swimming Carnival, where Clare High School proudly took out all three shields for the first time.

Tuesday of Week 7 (11/03/25) was our first Pupil Free Day. Staff continued their learning around the Public Education Strategy, focusing on Effective Learners this year. Dan Bradley led a session on AI, and Katie Liebelt lead new work on the development of the SA Curriculum. It is an exciting time to be a teacher in the public education system, with our Chief Executive, Professor Martin Westwell, leading change objectives that will fundamentally transform teaching and learning. This will be developed in collaboration with all stakeholders in the public education space over the next few years.

Looking forward, this week, Week 8, We hold our much-anticipated Athletics Carnival on Monday (17/03/25) which was postponed due to the extreme heat forecast last Friday. The parent/teacher interviews are on Monday & Tuesday of (17/03/25 & 18/03/25) and NAPLAN is in full swing for our Year 7 & 9 students.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we are making Clare High School a place of excellence and opportunity for all.

Warm regards,

Natasha Dunn
