Content: Students who successfully complete this course are able to choose a range of Science pathways in Stage 1 SACE. Students design experiments, conduct investigations, interpret observations and collect data. The four main areas of The Science are covered as:
- Earth & Space Sciences: the structure of the universe.
- Physical Science: energy conservation and transformations.
- Biological Science: DNA & genetics.
- Chemical sciences: the Periodic Table – groups & periods.
- Earth & Space Sciences: Global systems & cycles.
- Physical Sciences: Motion, forces & Newton’ laws.
- Biological Sciences: Evolution by Natural Selection.
- Chemical Sciences: Atomic & elemental structure and reaction rates.
In Semester 2, students will build on work studied in Semester 1, designing experiments, conducting practical and theoretical investigations, collecting and presenting data, and constructing models.
Assessment: Students are assessed using the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
