Content: The English curriculum is built around the three interrelated strands of language, literature and literacy. Together, the strands focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. The curriculum is facilitated through genuine real-world contexts, encouraging students to understand and apply their learning in meaningful ways. Students will study a range of texts that include: novels, short stories, poetry, plays, films, multimedia texts and everyday texts. They will continually develop their ICT skills and also engage in independent reading and book sharing activities. Explicit literacy skills are taught and underpin all concepts studied such as:
- Recount and narrative writing
- Expository, persuasive writing and speaking
- Text analysis
- Critical reading
- Creative thinking
- Text Production
- Oral Presentations
- Collaborative Group Work
Assessment: Students are assessed using the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standard.
