Year 8 Home Economics: Food and Textiles

Content: Food Technology focuses on Work Health and Safety, as well as an introduction to Food and Nutrition for healthy lifestyles with a focus on food selection and preparation using the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. Practical lessons in Food Technology involve individual work as well as collaborative group work. Students also undertake food design through the Mystery Box Challenge. Textile Technology introduces students to Fibres and Fabrics along with extended construction skills. Students learn how to master the use of the sewing machine and overlocker by designing and constructing a unique Apron using the Design Cycle.

Assessment: Students are assessed using the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
