Content: Humanities is a compulsory subject and is studied for a full year. The course covers Geography and History, Business and Economics and Civics and Citizenship.

The Geography subject will focus on

  • Landforms and Landscapes
  • Changing Nations

History: The unit of history taught in Year 8 is The Ancient to the Modern world. Students will develop historical understanding through the key concepts, including evidence, continuity and change, cause and effect, perspectives, empathy, significance and contestability.

The key inquiry questions for Year 8 are:

  • How did society change from the end of the Ancient Period to the beginning of the Modern Age?
  • What key beliefs and values emerged and how did they influence societies?
  • What were the cause and effects of contacts between societies in this period?
  • Which significant people, groups and ideas from this period have influenced the world today?

Assessment: Students are assessed using the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
